Asynchronous multi‐rate method of real‐time simulation for active distribution networks

The real-time simulation of active distribution networks (ADNs) can provide an accurate insight into transient behaviours, but faces challenges in efficiency and flexibility brought by larger system scales wider time-scale ranges. This paper presents asynchronous multi-rate (AMR) method design for the large-scale ADNs. In proposed method, entire ADN was decoupled different subsystems according to accuracy requirements, optimized time-steps were allocated each subsystem realize a fully distributed simulation. not only alleviated time-step coordination problem existing simulations, also enhanced flexible expansion capabilities simulator. To AMR simulation, interfacing synchronization mechanism, data communication strategy are this paper, their hardware is presented detail. A modified IEEE 123-node with photovoltaics wind turbine generators simulated on 3 field-programmable gate arrays (FPGAs)-based results captured oscilloscope verified PSCAD/EMTDC, which demonstrated superiority compared synchronous (SMR) method.
